My Absolutely New Biased iPad Pro Delightful Wishlist for 2022
For several months, I've been returning interest in my iPad Pro and using it almost full-time. I love it, but it could still be so more!
For the last month or so, I’ve been returning interest in my iPad Pro and using it full-time.
While returning to the iPad, I rediscovered what I love about using iPad. I am finding joy in what I can do now versus what I couldn’t do before when I first attempted to use the iPad as more than a consumption device.
Yet, there are things I am still wishing to see in the upcoming iPad Pro release. Here are a few things I want to see this year or next.
The iPad Pro is already an excellent tablet. But with the rumors of an upcoming refresh this year, I thought I would share my wishlist of features I would love to see.
I have gone back and forth with the iPad Pro as a primary computing device. It wasn’t until I purchased the iPad Pro 11 that I realized how it works for me.
I need a full desktop computer that runs macOS for work as a Project Manager in Web Development. I need to be able to have many windows open. I need to be able to check things work on a full desktop. I need to be able to check different screen resolutions and connect to a large monitor without any restrictions. I need to easily switch between other desktops with different open apps as I juggle managing many projects simultaneously. All these things are necessary for me. These things are still not entirely possible with the Apple iPad Pro and iPadOS.
But, I find the iPad Pro much more helpful when I need to focus on only one thing. I find the iPad Pro more convenient when consuming content and not trying to be productive. Sitting on my couch browsing and reading something. Take small notes with my Apple Pencil.
I find it’s easier to accommodate my dog’s codependency with my iPad versus my laptop, especially when my clingy dog wants nothing more than to be near me and on my lap.
Improve the Aspect Ratio
The aspect ratio needs to be better. I would love an iPad Pro with a 3:2 or 16:10 aspect ratio. This would be great for productivity, but many people like myself use a laptop for work and an iPad Pro for personal use.
Sometimes, I’ll connect to my work computer via Luna Display or Jump. One of the most annoying changes is how immediately cramped everything is when viewing my desktop through the aspect ratio of an iPad Pro.
I’m not as interested in larger screen sizes. 13 (or 14 inches) is the perfect size for mobile productivity. Want I want is an aspect ratio that makes using it practical. The MacBook screen already does this. Why can’t the iPad Pro screen, as well?
Ability to Change Resolution
All iPads and iPhones are restrictive with screen resolution. Even MacOS is somewhat restrictive. But MacOS is open enough to allow more screen resolution options. Many third-party apps assist users in setting the screen resolution to their heart’s desire.
Sometimes, I wish I could change the resolution and mess with it to see if it would improve my workflow.
Better Battery Life
I can’t believe in 2022, I am saying this, but the iPad now needs better battery life. Macbooks using the M1 chip can get up to twenty hours of battery life, so it’s time for the iPad to catch up.
My iPad has a magic keyboard connected to it most of the time and an Apple Pencil 2 connected via magnet. Between those two, I rarely, if ever, achieve the promised ten hours. More like six or seven (and sometimes even less).
Either Apple needs to find a way to put in a larger battery or work their magic with the software and ARM chip to optimize the battery profile.
I hope someday I can use an iPad again and not worry about needing to be near an outlet.
Larger Screen Size
I’m not interested in lugging a 16-inch iPad around. I already have a work Macbook that size, and it’s ginormous. But I can see why some creators might want one, especially designers and/or illustrators. But I would love Apple to make the 12.9 iPad Pro find a way to fit a 14-inch screen size in the same profile.
Improved Multitasking
The multitasking solution iPad uses is unique yet still somehow restrictive.
As a user am uncertain of the solution. But suppose Apple could find a way to find a happy medium between what they have already implemented on iPadOS and windows multitasking on MacOS. In that case, we find ourselves in a much better situation.
Allow Third-Party Web Browsers More Freedom
In iOS and iPadOS, the only good web browser is Safari. That is not true in MacOS. I have tried the new and so-called improved Safari. It’s now more bloated and works like shit on my 16-inch Macbook. When I use Safari on macOS, the fans begin to spin immediately. At the same time, that is not the case if I use other web browsers.
Yet, Safari is a much better experience on the iPad. This is by design because Apple forces everyone to use Webkit in iOS and restricts what other web browsers can do, such as adding plugins.
I would love to see Apple allow Firefox and Chrome, for example, the same freedom they give Safari.
These are a few things I wish to see in the new iPad Pro this year and in the upcoming years, along with some dream items for the iPadOS software. Let’s see if Apple can get us there. I have no doubt they will surprise me every year, one way or another.
